Rock & Roll Society Overview

The RRS was founded by Thomas Roeck as a way to promote and support honest blues and rock enthusiasts, venues, agents, special events, and most of all its musicians and families, in an effort to keep all rock and roll alive and well in these uncertain times. The main goals of the RRS is to strengthen the blues, rock, and popular music scenes as a whole, to fiercely support and protect the music, and guarantee all musicians a fair wage, and a comfortable place to perform and jam in open sessions from small to large concert settings. By educating the masses on supporting, promoting, and enjoying the music and all its contributors, we can all make a difference and protect the artists and artistry we all love so dearly.

The RRS was created in October of 2010 as a Non-Profit Organization to ensure the continuation of all blues, rock and roll, and popular music in all forms, styles, and genres. From the blues that had a baby to the molten metal of today, and everything in between. In an unstable economy or not, people still need their down time, and the power of music soothing the savage beast is one of the basic primal outlets that we all share as human beings. With the final appointments of the staff the RRS is now complete and ready to assume it's role in the effort to preserve music in all forms.

Is rock and roll really dying? From our perspective here in the natural state, we don’t think so, but it has definitely lost ground. We are amazed at all the fabulous talent we have available here in the land of opportunity and southern hospitality. From blues to raging rock and roll, Arkansas has some of the most prolific players of any music scene we have ever had the pleasure of being part of.

Sixteen years ago Tommy was out in Las Vegas nearing the end of a 20 year jaunt of chasing the dream. For some reason in the 80’s he  thought that the proverbial grass was indeed greener elsewhere and he flung himself into the frigid north of the motor city’s turbulent musical history and became a small part of that saga with  Hunky Dory at motorcityrock.com. Then relocating west to Hollywood, Roeck experienced firsthand the drowning pool of the west coast pay to play scene performing at the Whiskey-a-Go-Go and the Palace Ballroom with Beggar’s Day to name a few. Working his way through the multitude of flakes, posers, and wannabes in the Music Connection and Bam magazines, playing, partying, and schmoozing, the love of rock and roll has driven him a million miles, and to this point in his musical life. Once it gets in your blood, there is no turning back. he told himself he would retire in his 30’s then 40’s and now 50, it seems that he is ever more possessed.

As the beat goes on, we have evolved with the various genres and reinvention of what music has become today. From the blues that had a baby and turned into rock n roll with Chuck Berry, which developed feed backing, psychedelic tendencies with Hendrix, the moaning and screaming and intricate guitar work of Led Zeppelin, the whammy bar, finger tapping, time delayed riffs of Edward Van Halen to the whining depressed Seattle sound of Nirvana and Pearl Jam to the present which is everything all rolled into one giant melodic burrito.

People say rock is dead, and we have to disagree. Music is alive and well in the hearts and minds of more people in the world than you can count. Even in a depressed economy there is still huge sign of creativity, dedication, and life. The music is a magical force that enables its creators to communicate with all races their innermost feelings, desires, dreams, and fears. The fact that when you hear that special song, you are magically transported to a place and time in your mind that can bring back memories of great happiness and or sorrow, it has the power to stir, strip, or enrage any soul. This shows us that yes music is a valid way of life, and a needed commodity in a world of chaos and uncertain times.

Music is surviving the trials of humanity, and indeed it is a part of being human. When your mother sang you lullabies in her arms as an infant, you carried her voice in your head, and her love in your heart throughout your life, even after she was gone to her maker and loved ones. The music lives on in you, everyone you touch, and all who listen to and love any and all music in any form. It is truly a human condition.

If we don’t act now it will soon be too late even though in the state of Arkansas the music is somewhat thriving, and slowly gaining ground thanks to people like Peter Read who has survived through 30 years in the music newspaper business with his unstoppable dedication to the magic and art of music with Nightflying Entertainment Magazine. People like Wayne Willems, Mary Holt, Mike Dollins of the Blues Guitar News , Stephanie & Aaron Shaw of Arkansas Rocks, Maxx Anderson of Arkansas Vibe, David Hughes of Unknown Legends, and Cody "Cbum" Yancey of BLC Designs to name a few. This small group of people are the foundation and glue of what holds together our precious music scene here in the land of opportunity, and work their proverbial butts off to give life to what lives and breathes in our hearts and souls....................  Thank you for everything you do.... The Staff
